Diablo

A gaming-night argument spirals into old wounds, staged as back-and-forth dialogue.

“Why are you such an ass hat?”

I let the night air soak into my skin while considering her words.

Technically, she wasn’t wrong.

Just because I was being an asshat didn’t mean I couldn’t try and convince her otherwise.

“Look, I…”

“STOP.”

“I’m trying to explain…”

“STOP!”

“What the heck, Leah? What do you even want from me then?” I feigned exasperation.

“I want you to reexamine your priorities. I’m only in this stupid party because you asked me to be here and you PROMISED you’d help me level up. Now all you do is act jealous whenever some random internet guy helps me by dropping gear or running rifts when you aren’t around.”

“Oh please, like some pervert from the internet is going to make me jealous.”

She cocked her head to one side and snapped her fingers at me. “Oh, you’re freaking jealous. He is 500 Paragon higher than you AND has a fully matched gear set. You…you barely know how to craft a decent sized gem!”

“Typical freaking gamer chick, kicking a man right in the gemstones,” was my lame response.

“Look,” she continued, “if you want to keep playing together then you need to care less about my levels and more about being supportive and patient while I figure everything out.”

“Leah, give me a break. This is just what WE DO. I act like a complete jerk and you pretend not to enjoy it. Rinse and repeat.”

Another finger snap. “Does the look on my face tell you I enjoy any part of this!? You delusional moron. Now I know exactly why Adria warned me about playing with you. And to think, you had me convinced that she was the crazy one.”

That stung. “Don’t you dare bring her up. Don’t even say her name. How dare you bring her into this.”

“Typical Antonius. Avoiding any and all analysis of your failed relationships.”

Again, technically, she wasn’t wrong.

This is why I hate MMORPGs.
